Mary Abma - Artist, Ontario

Mary Abma, artist of Bright’s Grove Ontario, brilliantly illuminates through her work using many media, her ideas on themes exploring bridges to our past and our relations with and place in the natural world we inhabit.

Viewing her art, I see wonderfully imagined brilliant scenes and objects… a shovel aligned with the plant it helped to grow, a series on the plight of the woodland caribou, a scene like a fire raging through a forest in the far distance, between the scene before, and the scene after…many many of such works, too many to describe here and all I would say now…  please go to her website and browse, you will find narrative text she has written, images of enchantment, and challenge, and awe at her skill and the food for the mind and eye she produces… Better still, find her exhibits and go there…

The words from her website that follow describe her art, her motivation…

Mary Abma is an artist who lives in Bright’s Grove, Ontario.  Her artworks, which consist primarily of idea-based works executed in a variety of artistic forms, explore themes that allow her to incorporate her interest in history, her concern for the environment, her passion for science, and her desire to find visual expression for her thoughts about the human condition. “I visit themes that relate to universal experiences that are present in our own life narratives. These layered works examine connections, or bridges that are integral to our stories.  I am especially interested in exploring the bridges that bring us into a connection with our past, and those that define our relationship with and our place in the natural world.”
