Professional Stretcher Bars
This is our most popular stretcher bar profile with professional artists and conservators. It provides solid structural support in a keyable wood system without excessive bulk or weight. The 3/16” rebate on the back side allows for a protective backing.
This thicker profile provides extra fall and more space between the canvas and stretcher frame. This feature is ideal for larger canvases and where more agressive painting techniques are used. The heavier 1-1/8" (2.9 cm) thickness of the Professional bar makes it a popular stretcher for use in Gallery Wrap (frameless) display of art. This profile is commonly used for canvases ranging in size from 10" to 96" (25 cm to 240 cm).

| Braces: | 1/2” x 3” clear white pine (solid & finger jointed) normally spaced at no greater than 30” centres starting at bar lengths of 40”. For frame sizes less than 40”, braces are often used to provide protection of the canvas. Each custom made brace is designed with a 1/4”x 1/2” x 3” tenon on each end which fits into a matching mortise on the stretcher bar. The brace includes a very effective and attractive “hidden” slot design which holds the keys firmly in place. Where braces intersect, a 3” wide 1/4” deep dado is machined in each brace to provide a tight and flush nesting of the braces. This joint is fastened together with a low profile insert nut and bolt during final assembly. |
